Steve Shelton

My connection to the Hope Water International began in 2013 as I watched and cheered my daughter, Stephanie, train and run the Detroit FULL Marathon with absolutely no running experience. It was such a special day for me to place the medal around her neck at the finish line.

In January 2014 I felt God’s “nudge” to sign up… not as a supporter but as a participant. I clearly heard Him say, “TRUST ME.” Since that time, I have discovered the greatest group of people within the HWI community. I am honored and humbled everyday by the inspiration and compassion from so many team members. God has also touched my heart through the Pokot people. A group of God’s children close to His heart who are suffering because they do not have access to clean water. Hope Water International is committed to providing clean water by partnering with communities and drilling deep water wells in some of the world’s neediest and remote areas in Africa.

In August of 2016, I was blessed to go on a mission trip to Kenya with other Hope Water teammates. We met and interacted with the beautiful Pokote people; seeing Jesus through their eyes, feeling the love and compassion in their hearts and yes, seeing and feeling their suffering because of their lack of water.

I continue to commit to fundraising and training because: the need is real, the need is enormous and the need is NOW. We are changing and saving lives...and the work is not over.
