Christopher Smith

Before joining Hope Water, I was overweight, inactive with a sedentary job, having elevated blood pressure and cholesterol. My doctor prescribed me exercise for three years straight, but my motivations and discipline quickly faded each time I tried walking consistently.

I joined Hope Water last year for the 2021 Grand Rapids Marathon and it was the journey of a lifetime. I went from being a couch dweller to an avid runner. Hope water taught me the discipline, dedication, and determination it takes to overcome obstacles, stick to a plan, and meet your fitness goals. One of my teammates stated, “I don’t run to add days to my life, I run to add life to my days.” I didn’t really understand what he meant at the time, but now it rings so loudly. The past year feels like a lifetime ago. The memories, the camaraderie, the new friends, the stories, the marathon, the testing of your limits and will, it was incredible journey.

I rejoin Hope Water again for the 2022 season to support my friends and their mission to bring awareness and clean water to those in Sierra Leone, Africa. While that is an important part of joining Hope Water and the purpose of our fundraising efforts. I do hope one day I can pay it forward and inspire others to get active and healthy. Not only does Hope Water impact those around the world, it impacts people here, like me, who need that support and purpose in their life.

Thank you for considering to donate to my Hope Water fundraising page.
