This is my third year running to raise funds and awareness to bring clean water on behalf of Hope Water to children in Africa. For this year, I am doing two marathons (Detroit and Disney) and the Traverse City 70.3 Iron Man with a few triathlons, 5K, half marathons in the mix as well. The TC Iron Man is particularly challenging for me because it has a 1.2 mile swim and I am afraid of water after almost drowning 3 separate times from age 7-21. But, the cause is bigger than my fears! About the cause:
Nearly 1,000 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. Six kilometers, a little more than 3.7 miles, is the average distance round trip women and children in the developing world walk for water - water that is often contaminated with life-threatening diseases. The average cost of providing clean, lasting water to one person is $50.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider contributing to help save a child's life.
